In May of 2014 at Savannah High Schoo,l James Powell was honored with the Trailblazer Award for mentoring students in Art in Chatham County.

OMEGA MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
In 2014 in Savannah, GA James Powell was honored with the Omega Man of the Year at the Mu Phi chapter. In 1989 at Fort Stewart, GA James Powell was honored with the Omega Man of the Year at the Beta Gamma Gamma chapter.
ARTFUL HARVEST AWARD
In 2015, James Powell won third place in the Artful Harvest Art Show in Covington, GA for the painting of his grandson Isaac.
